[beyond was dead, and now he's not.

it's a perplexing position for anyone to find themselves in, of course, but even more so when there's something fundamental about that person that's gone missing - something that should be there, but isn't. beyond has found he is missing such a thing, and has decided to take advantage of the technology of this new place in order to work out his thoughts regarding this dilemma.]

"In the social jungle of human existence, there is no feeling of being alive without a sense of identity."

[his voice is quiet, raspy, almost unnaturally even in tone. he pauses, then picks up with one of many questions currently on his mind, addressing anyone within earshot.]

What shapes your sense of identity?

Time Lords. Vulcans. I myself am a Pokémon.

Pokémon are creatures with minds as real as your own, who populate my world. I am not surprised to find yet another planet where we do not exist, where humans thrive regardless. It is little wonder that we are seen as little more than animals and accessories to the progress of humankind.

[Wait, now it's a little off-topic.]

We come in hundreds of species, sharing a common genetic ancestor but as wide in variation as nature can devise. We do not seek civilizations or conquest, only peaceable existence.

Yes. We are, not that it makes a difference in how we are treated and considered.

As animals or slaves. Human pets or weapons, expected to be suborndinate to their will.

I am imprisoned here because I will not accept it, I believe.

[No.]

For lack of any better explanation, yes.

The Admiral has human sympathies. A simple observation of who he hires to be his wardens will show that.

Many things, chiefly that they are overwhelmingly human.

All that I have observed, or all that leads me to this conclusion?

There are, but none so relevant.

The wardens believe themselves to have a duty to enforce fairness and mercy, but they are disorganized. Many have never seen their employer, yet are loyal to him anyway. They never doubt his judgement on his prisoners, only discuss how well or poorly we should be coaxed into reformation.

They often do not know what each other are doing, or, if they know, they do not agree.

Unfortunately, it is flawed in a way that only makes living here more tiresome.

Some, recently. As I said, there is more focus on reforming what inmates are allowed.
