Part two of permissions - an explanation of Beyond's abilities and your decision of what's OK for Beyond to (somewhat indirectly) do - follows below.

Beyond was born with what's known in Death Note canon as shinigami eyes. This power was initially stripped from him, but as of Beyond's pairing with Cassel and Cassel's subsequent request, the Admiral has restored this ability to Beyond at full power.

A bit of explanation: In the Death Note universe, humans who acquire a Death Note and become attached to a shinigami, or death god, have the option of trading that shinigami the temporary use of their eyesight, which grants the ability to see a person's true name (a critical piece of information needed for effectively using the notebook) and fated day of death.

Here is an example of what someone with shinigami eyesight sees when looking at a live human:



Typically, the price given to the shinigami in exchange for this skill is half of the user's remaining life span. Beyond, on the other hand, was born with this ability at no additional upfront cost, and without the element of choice - which sounds pretty cool in theory, except imagine since basically birth being surrounded by extremely visible reminders that everyone you've ever known and loved or even remotely liked will die. Not only that, but imagine knowing, inexplicably, when this will happen. For every. single. person. you've ever met. Imagine seeing this, over and over and over again, and probably not fully understanding entirely why or how you know these things. And imagine not only being unable to ever shut this ability off, but also imagine not being able to do a damn thing about it.

Great knowledge and an even greater sense of powerlessness. No wonder Beyond ended up so off-kilter, then. :|

Let's backtrack to the mechanics of how the shinigami eyes actually work. In order to see a name and life span, Beyond will need to see more than half of a person's face, usually the top half. Conversely, if more than half of the person’s face is covered, such as with a mask or large sunglasses, Beyond will NOT be able to see that person’s name and life span. Also keep in mind this only works on live humans, and only on the real thing or cinematic/photographic replicas. Paintings or sketches, no matter how lifelike, do not yield any results.

A note on how this applies in-game: I typically leave it up to players to decide whether their characters count as human and/or alive - that is, if you wonder whether Barge deaths count or just canon deaths, I leave that decision up to you. Do mutants count as "humans"? Again, your choice - it's YOUR character! Etc.

Now! Here's where you come in. If you'd like Beyond to have some sort of in-person or video encounter with your character/s, he will most likely end up seeing something, unless your character is dead, or not a human.

Character's name: He is known as The Iron Bull, Hissrad, or Ben-Hassrath. But the name he was given when he was born was Ornaas Arri. He does not know this name and its only use is for record keeping among the Qunari.

Alien, time traveler, and former spy who really badly lost himself in an assumed persona for a while. While his personal timeline is more straightforward than say, the Doctor's or Iris' he's also died twice, once for good and once to be reborn.

So there is some potential for headache-inducing - mostly in the "not at all human" department - but to a significantly lesser degree than his castmates.

In addition to dying to come onto the barge, he is also physically dead; he died both in canon and on the barge and then was resurrected via neural symbiont.

Human AND not human, and alive but has died and sort of only temporarily unkillable - he is a star's soul in a human body. He's died once in canon, but his own power resurrected him, and he brings other people back to life just by being around when his powers aren't restrained. SO ??? On the other hand, his powers do eventually (spoilers) go away, after which be presumably has a fairly normal human life span.

It's possible he has "Mentarsus-H α" like a watermark as well as his human name - which the star name technically predates - and possibly a corresponding watermark death date of seventeen years before his pull point, since the star's death coincides with his and Lourdes conception??? If you think that would be cool to play with?
